As Day 1 of my first ever juice fast comes to a close, I have one thing on my mind: Food. I’m imagining all the foods I could be eating right now, namely pizza, potstickers and chips and salivating. It doesn’t help that I’m hungry and tired….or that my sister is three feet away from me eating…again.
To be fair, I didn’t drink enough juice today (I had about 3 servings, 16 oz each, I should of had at least 4 although I had planned on drinking 6.) I might try to get one more serving in before I go to bed but, unfortunately, after only one day of juice, I’m kinda of tired of juice.
In addition to juice, I had 16 oz of coconut water (Surprisingly not bad. Thank you Trader Joe’s Brand!) and about a cup of vegetable broth (I used a low sodium store bought version that I jazzed up with ginger, lemongrass, black pepper, garlic, shallots and a splash of soy sauce–it was the most satisfying thing I ate all day. Super tasty.)
As I’m writing this, I realize I have not had any water all day…but I have peed like fifty million times today (TMI) so I haven’t really been thirsty.
WHAT I JUICED
I did have a lot of fun juicing this morning. I doubled or tripled recipes in most cases so I would have leftover juice for tomorrow:
Carrot Apple Ginger
This recipe was adapted from Reboot with Joe’s website:
This yielded about 34 oz. This was the first juice I tried this morning. I really enjoyed it. It was sweet tasting and yummy. I can see why I’ve seen this juice combination recommended for juicing newbies.
Green Strawberry Juice
I got this juice straight from the Reboot with Joe website: http://www.rebootwithjoe.com/green-strawberry-juice/
18 Kale leaves (almost 2 bunches)
6 Celery stalks
Yield: 36 oz.
This juice was extremely unpleasant. I won’t say what it smelled like…but the smell was the worst part. I could only choke down about one ounce. Unfortunately, I’ll have to drink it tomorrow. I am loathe to waste my juice…even if it is disgusting. I was disappointed because I was really excited to try this one. I bought the strawberries from Smart and Final for $1.49/2 lbs and the organic Kale from Ralphs for $.99/bunch.
Cranberry Sweet Potato Pear
This was my own creation:
6 cups Cranberries
2 Sweet Potatoes
3 Kale leaves
Yield: about 50 oz
Taste: I really enjoyed this juice. Tart with a hint of sweetness. My favorite juice of the day.
I’m proud of myself for surviving today but I’ll do better tomorrow. Goal for tomorrow: Drink at least 4 servings of juice and 4 glasses of water (plus broth and coconut water).
Okay, I’m going to drink my fresh ginger tea and go to bed.
